60's Fashion

Hey Everyone! Today I am all about 60's fashion! The 60's was a time for Revolution and Renewal for the United States. Rock n' Roll was becoming HUGE at the time. The United States as a whole went from the Conservative 2 Car garage family, to the Liberal Hippie Lifestyle. Now, not all people were Hippies of course, but Hippies defined the 1960's in my opinion. They fought (with words) for there beliefs of peace, love, happiness, and well drugs. Speaking of drugs, Psychedelia was HUGE. Pretty much what psychedelia is, is culture around Psychedelic Experiences which are experiences that supposedly "Free Your Mind" or that are "Completely Far Out" (out of this world). The wide use of Psychedelics in the 1960's was a huge factor in the changing of not only the lifestyle of some but the fashion and music also. This post will show you how the 1960's changed America's outlook forever. Enjoy!

Fashion:

                                                         Early 1960's

During the Early 1960's Geometrical clothing styles were "In". The patterns on the clothing and the clothing itself were usually in some sort of geometrical shape.

Again with the Geometrical shapes. Woman usually preferred dresses with no sleeves that had a boxy shape like the dresses above. Usually they were plain in color, just being one color. Although some saw this as "Conservative Style" (it was) it could also be called "Chic" or  "Diva-ish" style because if you add some sunglasses you could look like Audrey Hepburn in "Breakfast At Tiffany's" and she is one of the most Beautiful Woman in History for a reason, her class and style.

The Hairstyles of the Early 1960's were primarily simple too. Most of the time, it was short and flippy. Usually it had a bit of volume to it. The ends were usually curled under. This style is very elegant.

English Fashion Model, Twiggy, played an ENORMOUS role in Early 60's fashion. She sported about every early 60's fashion there was! She did it a bit differently then the ordinary early 1960's woman did, with her bright colored clothing splashing the page of just about every fashion magazine of the time. She took a different twist on the Fashion of that time being a bit more bold then many other, but she made it work! She is one of the Most Famous Faces on the Planet for a reason!

First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy, also played a HUGE role in early 1960's fashion. Being the First Lady of the United States she was in the Limelight for most of her life. She could be seen by everyone so she had to put her best fashion foot forward. She pulled off every look. As you can see above, she was fond of the geometrical dresses like most of the other woman of the early 1960's and she also sported beautiful pearls (in the first and second picture she is wearing a pearl bracelet) and would also be in gloves most of the time. She is cited by MANY fashion designers, even today, as an inspiration.

Mid 1960's Fashion

As you can see, Mid 1960's Fashion was quite similar to Early 1960's Fashion. There were a few tweaks though. Although many of the designs were still geometrical in shape, the overall design of the clothing was different. Instead of a one toned boxy dress (like the early 60's) the dresses had added buttons or belts, giving them more life. Also "Peter Pan Collars" (the first 2 girls collars) were coming into style. This also jazzed up the dresses a little. Did you notice anything else? A little fabric missing? Yes it sure is, dresses and skirts were getting shorter at the time.

Chiffon Tops (such as the one above) were worn often times. Most of the times these or polo necked ribbed sweaters would be worn with bell bottomed trousers.

Flashy Cocktail dresses like the dress above were very popular at the time. The dress above is made out of metal discs, interesting material right? Haha(:

Nehru Jackets seen above on both people were very "in". They could be worn on both sexes. This jacket arrived in the "fashion scene" around 1966.

Trendy White Go-Go Boots were so "in"! Many people had a pair of these and loved them! How cool are they?!? :D

Colleen Corby was a very famous model during the Mid 1960's. You can see her here in Mid 1960's fashion, the short dress, bolder colors then before. Very Nice Picture.

Late 1960's Fashion

Ah yes, the most refreshing part of the 1960's. Hippies!!!!!! Hippie style was dominant during the late 1960's Fringed Buck Skinned Vests (as seen on the woman in the front),  Flowing Caftans, Gypsy Style Skirts, Scarves, Bangles, Batik and Paisley Prints, Suede Mini Skirts, Berets, and Animal Prints were all VERY much in style.

Long Flowing Gypsy Styled skirts (above) were very much in style. Very easy to walk around in, Hippies preferred these skirts over uptight geometrical skirts from the Earlier 1960's.

Head Bands, Bell Bottoms and Knit Shirts were also very popular fashions. The woman above is wearing all.

Flowing Caftans (which are now know as just maxi dresses) were HUGE in hippie culture. They were very flowy and comfortable to wear. Very feminine.

Beautifully Decorated Bangles were also a must have during the late 1960's.

Paisley Print like the one above was very popular in fashion. It was a funky new road for the fashion industry to take.

Tie Dye was probably the BIGGEST fashion associated with Hippie Culture. It was indeed very popular throughout the late 1960's.

Janis Joplin (middle) is probably one of the best examples of Hippie Fashion. She sported everything from Tye Dye and Bell Bottoms to Bangles and Flowy

The End!

Thanks everyone for reading this blog post I hoped you enjoyed that and were informed a little also, haha it took awhile to make! Thanks again (:
